| Short term Efficacy of Laparoscopic Surgery in Elderly Patients with Rectal Cancer |

Abstract Objective: To study the short-term effects of laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer in elderly patients. methods: 88 cases of rectal cancer in elderly patients admitted to our hospital from September 2013 to September 2015 were enrolled in the study. All patients were divided into two groups according to the order of admission, each group had 44 cases. Among them, 44 cases were treated by open surgery as control group; the other 44 cases were treated by laparoscopic operation as observation group. The operation condition, postoperative recovery indicators and complications of the two groups of patients were observed. Results: The operation time of the observation group was longer than that of the control group, the amount of bleeding, the number of lymph nodes and the length of stay in hospital were better than those in the control group (P<0.05). Postoperative exhaust time, eating time, catheter indwelling time and the time of getting out of bed in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of complications in the observation group and control group were 6.82% and 18.18% respectively, and the incidence rate of the observation group was significantly lower (P<0.05.). Conclusion: For rectal cancer patients, compared with open surgery, in addition to longer operation time, laparoscopic surgery has less trauma, faster recovery, more lymph node clearance, less postoperative complications, etc. It is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
